Oracle regard the deal as a done deal even if Russia and China have not had their say.
Oracle seams to regard this as a done deal, even if Russia and China has not given their official blessing to the deal.
We will keep the petition open until Russia and China have had they say. There have also been some rumors about an appeal in EU, and then the votes can still make a difference!
Even if we did not reach any of the desired outcomes you voted for, we were invited to meet with Commissioner Kroes to present the appeal, and we got some additional information from that meeting. I think it was good that the community made itself heard in this case.
Even if the EU bowed to the political pressure generated by Oracle, it is now recorded that MySQL users overwhelmingly opposed the acquisition. We outnumbered the "customer letters" orchestrated by Oracle with a factor of 1 to 100!
Our sources say that even if in this case it was a "backroom deal", this experience may be helpful the next time the Commission has to handle an anti-competitive acquisition that involves open source.
